What to get right, specifically

The soft-sided part matters, since a shovel or anything with an edge will go through a fabric cover. Keep the cover tight, permanently

A loose cover flaps, and flapping fabric wears itself out against the frame far faster than a taut one. ShelterLogic makes the point that a tight cover ensures longer life and performance. Re-tension it as part of routine checks, particularly after high winds and after seasonal temperature swings, since fabric moves. This is the single cheapest thing you can do to get years rather than seasons out of a cover.

Auger anchors need the eyelet left proud, and hard ground needs help

The method is specific. Put a pipe or a steel rod through the eyelet of the auger and use it as a handle to screw the anchor into the ground, stopping when the eyelet still stands one to two inches above the surface so it can be connected to the leg. If the ground is too hard to take the auger, their guidance is to dig a hole first with a shovel or a post hole tool rather than forcing it. An auger that has been fought into the ground at an angle, or driven flush so nothing can attach to it, is not doing the job the warranty assumes.
